I heart Dr. Davis

Syd and Sam had well check ups at the doctor about a week ago. Last year I decided that taking the 2 kids together for a well check up is smart since their birthdays are so close - 2 birds with one stone. I told myself I wouldn't do it again, but it just doesn't make sense to go twice. So I did it anyway even if was against my better judgement.

Sydney is crazy about our pediatrician, Dr. Davis. She LOVES going to the doctor. The kid is rarely sick - seriously maybe 3 visits in her 5 years other than well check ups. She thinks all the measuring and weighing, ear and eye testing is so wonderful. So we sit in the exam room waiting for the beloved Dr. D to make his grand entrance. But Sydney just couldn't wait. She would press her face against the door and in an almost shouting voice say "Dr. Davis, I'm in here waiting for you." And so he would answer back on his way into another exam room, "Hi, Sydney" or "Be right there". So she just paced and waited and annoyed other sick patients with her impatientness. Finally he makes his entrance. Syd is over the top beside herself with excitement. She plops up on the exam table and says, "Dr. Davis, am I your best customer?" I doubt it since the kid is never sick. But the nonetheless, Dr. D thinks Syd is pretty cool, too.

But both of my kids are really healthy and for that I am so grateful. Sam is 23 lbs now. I'm sure he gets that low weight from me (that's funny in more than one way). It's about time to start thinking about potty training. Sydney being the advanced learner that she naturally is (she gets that from me, too - again funny), potty trained at 20 months. EASY, EASY, EASY! Sydney - pee here. Okay. BAM! Done. That was the extent of it. Sam, not so much. Any advice?

How Was Your Day, Honey?

Sydney loves to ask me what happened at my school. So today I told her how some kids were not very nice. Sydney has a very sweet and empathetic face - she kind of cocks her head to the side and wrinkles up her nose. It is so sweet! So in her most precious voice with her look of concern says, "Did they say damn-it and stupid and they don't like you? And they kicked each other in the privacy and poked each other in the eye?"
Yeah, something like that.

Blog Slacker

So I've been a total slacker when it comes to blogging lately. Not to the point that I deserved the anonymous comment on the last post (P.S. - yes, I do know Christmas is over). Anyhoo... I have been so busy lately. But kinda, sadly I admit, I lost the urge to blog. GASP! But I'm back (no, not by popular demand, but back nonetheless).

Kyle and I just spent a week in St. Kitts. It was so relaxing and just what we needed. We celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary while we were there. I would love to show you the wonderful pictures of the adventures we had on our trip. But here's how a typical day went: eat, lounge, eat and drink, lounge, drink, lounge, eat, shower, drink, eat, sleep. I am usually one who likes to see it all while on vacation. But really, we never felt the urge to do much more than relax at the beach or poolside. It was FABULOUS! So needless to say there aren't many pics.

You Heard it Here!

The other day as I was leaving for work, Kyle said something about texting him later that day. Sydney then told me, "Mom, me and (friend whose name I can't remember) were texting each other in the home center yesterday." Complete with the universal sign for texting - you know thumbs typing a mile a minute. When I think of the sweet little 4 and 5 year olds in the home center, I imagine an ironing board and kitchen set, baby dolls and cradles. Apparently, this is not your average home center.

Tonight at dinner, Sam wanted to say the prayer. Those of you that know Sam well are thinking, "wait a minute, he doesn't talk". Yes, he is boy of few words, but he is talking more these days. Please bow your heads for Sam's Prayer:

Blog Friends - I'm back. Life has been kicking my butt lately so I have neglected my blogging duties.
Better late than never... here are pics from Sydney's 5th birthday. It was low-key this year (as is the tradition with us). We will continue the grandparents and close family event while we can get away with it. I know the day will come when she wants something bigger and more extravagant, but until then don't tell her about the parties the cool kids are having.
I really can't believe Sydney is 5. 5 seems different... like it's more important than 4 or 3. It's not like she's driving or anything, but 5 seems very grown up. Kindergarten is lurking around the corner. Don't get me wrong... I'm not one of those that can't stand the thought of her going. We are just starting a big, new, scary chapter (insert Ariel from the Little Mermaid singing "A Whole New World"). Sydney wanted so badly to have her ears pierced for her birthday. So we took the plunge. She was a trooper! A few tears and it was all over! She made me so proud. She walked up to the little spinning display that shows all of the choices for earrings. She looked right at the lady (that looked way too old to work at Sweet and Sassy) and said, "I want diamonds".

Anxiously Waiting

Today we are celebrating Sydney's birthday - 5 years old! Her birthday was actually 2 days ago, but we are having our family over to celebrate today.

She is really excited and asked, "Mom, when do all of my customers get here for my birthday?" That's an interesting way to look at it...
